Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is reportedly out of contract at the end of the season.
Rafa Benitez will get the chance to break Newcastle’s transfer record again in the summer if he commits to a three-year deal at St James’ Park, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
Benitez’s future on Tyneside continues to be a major talking point. The Mirror reports that his current deal expires in the summer, and there is yet to be an agreement reached regarding a new contract.
The Mirror reports that Mike Ashley is aware of how important keeping the Spaniard at the club is and is hoping that he will sign a new long-term deal with Newcastle ahead of the summer.
And in an attempt to convince Benitez to stay, Ashley is ready to promise to be willing to break the club’s transfer record – just a couple of months after £20 million signing Miguel Almiron became the club’s most expensive addition – during the summer, according to the Mirror.
Although there have been exceptions, Benitez has generally worked wonders in the transfer market during his time as Newcastle boss. The likes of Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar and Salomon Rondon have been amongst the inspired signings, and Almiron looks to have serious potential as he continues to settle in.
And if Benitez signs a new deal and can work his magic once again in the summer, Newcastle clearly have the potential to enjoy a much more exciting campaign next year.
