According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron has missed the first day of preparation for this weekend’s game with Chelsea.
Almiron is suspended for Paraguay’s clash with Bolivia tonight, and Newcastle were hoping that he would return to England to prepare for this weekend’s clash.
However, the Paraguayan FA have insisted that Almiron stays with his national team, and trained on Monday for ‘evaluation’ even though he can’t play tonight.
That’s a frustrating blow for Newcastle, and it may well be that Almiron isn’t considered as a starter against Chelsea because of his later-than-hoped return.
The game against Chelsea kicks off at 12:30pm on Saturday, meaning Newcastle need to be prepared early for the game, and Almiron missing preparations won’t help his cause.
The news comes just hours after agent Daniel Campos was quoted as saying that Almiron would have left Newcastle if the global pandemic didn’t happen.

Campos claims Atletico Madrid are keen on Almiron, and other ‘big’ Premier League sides that want to sign him in 2021.
Newcastle fans would be forgiven for being frustrated with the noises surrounding Almiron right now, as a potential exit being talked up and missing first preparations to face Chelsea isn’t an ideal combination.
