Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Miguel Almiron are fading.

According to The Chronicle, Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron has demanded a huge £100,000-a-week contract in order to join Newcastle United.
Almiron, 24, starred in South America with Cerro Porteno and Lanus before heading to Major League Soccer with Atlanta United, where he has made a real name for himself.
The Paraguayan attacking midfielder hit 13 goals and 13 assists in the last MLS season, helping fire Atlanta United to MLS Cup glory.
Atlanta have though accepted that Almiron will be on the move soon, and Newcastle have been one of the main teams involved in attempting to sign him.
However, The Chronicle report that Almiron has now demand a £100,000-a-week contract to join the Magpies, more than twice his £44,000-a-week earnings at Atlanta United.
Newcastle are unsurprisingly reluctant to pay that kind of money, and feel that Almiron’s demands are ‘astronomical’, potentially ruining the chances of a move this month.

It’s claimed that Newcastle are ready to break their £16million transfer record on Almiron, but the wage demands mean that a move is currently unlikely in what is a huge blow to fans and Rafael Benitez.
At least there is the intention to spend and break the club’s transfer record, but supporters will surely appreciate that those kind of wage demands are beyond Newcastle, and probably a number of Premier League teams for an MLS player.
