Middlesbrough are interested in signing Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou before Monday’s transfer deadline, as reported by Bristol Live.
He may not be the most consistent striker in the Championship but, when Diedhiou is fit and firing, the Robins are a far more fearsome proposition.
After finding the net against Wycombe and Preston, Diedhiou hit a match-winning brace in the 2-1 triumph over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night; a result that lifted Dean Holden’s side to within touching distance of the play-offs.
On his day, Diedhiou can be unplayable; the sort of player who can win games on his own at this level.
So no wonder the Bristol City boss is keen to see his most potent goal-threat stay at Ashton Gate until the summer at least.
“I’ve said all along that he’s a player that I want to keep at the football club,” Holden told Bristol Live after the hard-fought victory over Huddersfield.
Unfortunately, Bristol City are in a rather awkward position.

Diedhiou is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, despite a number of offers from the Robins.
Championship rivals Middlesbrough would surely jump at the chance to sign Bristol City’s £5.3 million record-signing on a cut-price deal, especially as Neil Warnock’s side have promotion ambitions of their own.
Boro are level on points with Bristol City in the table but have scored a paltry 30 goals in 26 matches.
