According to the Daily Mail, Middlesbrough are keen to sign Cardiff City wide player Junior Hoilett with the player’s contract expiring next summer.

Boro retained their Championship status following the arrival of manager Neil Warnock.

Despite a poor record at the Riverside Stadium, Boro picked up valuable points on the road and can now look to strengthening the squad in the summer.

Warnock is an expert at gaining promotion from the Championship.

He has led Sheffield United, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City up to the Premier League and Boro will be hoping he can follow suit at the Riverside.

According to the Daily Mail, Warnock wants former player Hoilett to help with the task.

The experienced Canadian has played under Warnock at QPR and Cardiff and described the Boro manager as a ‘great tactician’ during his spell in the Welsh capital.

“It worked out and it shows the gaffer is a great tactician. Everybody plays for the manager here and gives 100 per cent. You see how hard we work for each other,” Hoilett explained to the Daily Mail after featuring in a surprise wingback role.

Hoilett is predominantly a winger. However, as the 30-year-old’s speed declines, he could find himself following the likes of Ashley Young and becoming a wingback.

The former Blackburn man scored seven goals in 41 games for Cardiff this past season.
