The West Ham United defender could have a choice between Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest.
The Daily Mirror reports (Thursday 9th August live blog, 11:28) Middlesbrough are trying to conclude a deal for West Ham United’s Sam Byram, who has been in talks with Nottingham Forest.
It was claimed by the Sun on Wednesday that Byram was set to join Forest on a season-long loan deal.
But Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis has now entered the race, according to the Daily Mirror.
And Byram’s future could go down to the wire, despite the newspaper adding that Pulis’s Nottingham Forest counterpart – and predecessor but-one – Aitor Karanka was confident of signing the out of favour West Ham right-back.
Byram – for whom West Ham paid around £4 million two-and-a-half-years ago – began his career at Leeds United and a return to Yorkshire with Boro is likely to appeal, given the chance.
Both Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest are expected to battle one another for promotion to the Premier League this season.
