Middlesbrough have submitted a new bid for Kieran Westwood.

According to reports from The Northern Echo, Middlesbrough have tabled an improved offer for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper, Kieran Westwood.

Wednesday have already rejected Boro’s opening £3 million bid for the goalkeeper. However, Garry Monk is ready to step it up for the 32-year-old.

The report claims that Boro have submitted a bid of around £4.5 million, and they are prepared to offer a four-year deal to the Republic of Ireland international.

Boro have had a £5 million bid for Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow rejected last week. Another reported target, Sam Johnstone, is set to join from Aston Villa on loan.

The Echo adds that Wednesday hierarchy are looking for a fee of around £5.5 million for Westwood. Boro are set for further talks in an attempt to achieve a compromise.

Westwood has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers outside the Premier League since his arrival from Sunderland.

He has two years of his current contract remaining with Wednesday, but the Owls are not willing to offer him a new deal.
