Middlesbrough are set to step up their interest in Nottingham Forest forward Britt Assombalonga.

According to a report in the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough are ready to step up their interest in Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga.

Garry Monk has made Assombalonga his top target for the summer, and is keen to bring the Congolese-born forward to the Riverside Stadium.

Forest are understood to be keen to keep hold of Assmbalonga, but know they could face a fight.

Premier League sides are said to be interested in the 24-year-old, but Boro are now hoping to steal a march on the competition.

Monk is said to believe that Forest could be more willing to part ways with Assombalonga, after securing the signing of Jason Cummings from Hibernian.

Assombalonga is expected to cost a large fee, but Monk is eager to bring him to Teeside.

The former Peterborough United striker scored 14 goals in the Championship last term for Forest, despite missing much of the campaign with injury.

If Boro do fail in their bid to bring in Assombalonga, it is believed that Norwich City’s Cameron Jerome could come on to their wishlist.
