Wesley Said has asked to leave Toulouse this summer with Middlesbrough set to offer a fresh start to the £7 million forward, according to Les Violets.
After a tense debate on the other side of the Channel, Toulouse finally saw their Ligue 1 status stripped away at the end of June.
While The Violets were far from happy to lose their place in the top flight, relegated on a points per game basis, their complaints really didn’t stand up to much scrutiny.
Yes, the Ligue 1 season was brought to a conclusion with ten matchdays still to go. But Toulouse still needed a miracle, sitting rock bottom with three wins to their name and a remarkable 14 points adrift of safety.
According to reports from France, the exodus might soon get underway with £7 million forward Said asking the board to let him to.
But it remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old would be happy to swap one second-tier outfit for another.
Middlesbrough are interested, even though Said managed just two goals in 23 Ligue 1 games after he joined Toulouse from Dijon in a big-money deal last summer.
Funds are in short supply at the Riverside, however, meaning a deal would only be a possibility if Said can leave on loan or for far less than the £7 million Toulouse paid for his signature 12 months ago.
