West Bromwich Albion are reportedly considering making a fresh move for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson during the January transfer window.

According to the Northern Echo, West Brom will be wasting their time if they attempt to try and lure Ben Gibson to The Hawthorns during the January transfer window, as Middlesbrough plan to reject any bids that may come in for the defender.

The Northern Echo reports that the Baggies attempted to sign Gibson in the summer and made two bids for the 24-year-old – with the higher totalling £20 million – and still have the Englishman on their radar ahead of next month’s window.

West Brom are bracing themselves to potentially lose key man Jonny Evans with the Northern Irishman attracting plenty of attention from their Premier League rivals, according to the Northern Echo, and Gibson is being touted as a potential replacement.

However, the Northern Echo adds that Boro have absolutely no plans to sell their own stalwart and thus, plan to reject any offers that come in for him as they look to get their season back on track in the Championship.

While Middlesbrough may be determined to hold onto Gibson, it would certainly be no surprise if that determination was put to the test if Evans did end up leaving West Brom.

Alan Pardew’s men will certainly need to sign another centre-back, and, with the Northern Echo suggesting that Evans could command a fee of £35 million, they would undoubtedly have the funds to make Boro sit up and take notice – as much as they be reluctant to.
