Middlesbrough, Burnley and Watford are all said to want the Nottingham Forest striker

Middlesbrough have outbid Premier League sides Burnley and Watford to land Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga for £14 million, The Sun reports.

The tabloid claims that Burnley were not prepared to match Boro’s offer for Assombalonga, while Watford backed off when the bidding increased.

And Middlesbrough will reportedly try to conclude the 24-year-old’s transfer once he returns from Nottingham Forest’s Florida training camp on Friday, handing him a £60,000-a-week deal.

Assombalonga recovered from a long-term lay-off to scored 14 goals from 20 starts for Forest last season, and is said to have been eyed by Burnley as a potential replacement for wanted man Andre Gray.

The Congolese worked under Clarets boss Sean Dyche at first club Watford, who are also in the market for attacking reinforcements after M’Baye Niang’s return to AC Milan.

The Sun is also reporting that Middlesbrough are lining up a £3 million deal for Lorient right-back Steven Moreira, despite already landing Cyrus Christie from Derby County.
