It is claimed that Millwall are willing to sell the Middlesbrough target if they can sign a replacement, with an offer made for Sheffield United’s Ryan Leonard.

According to the Sun, Middlesbrough are hoping to sign Millwall’s George Saville in a £7 million loan-to-buy deal – with the Lions lining up Sheffield United’s Ryan Leonard as the midfielder’s replacement.

The newspaper claims Middlesbrough had an offer of £13 million for Saville and Jed Wallace, the Millwall winger, turned down during the regular transfer window. And Boro are now said to be concentrating on Saville alone.

According to the Sun, the Lions are willing to let the 25-year-old leave providing they can source an alternative, and have offered to take Leonard on loan with a view to a £750,000 permanent move.

However, the newspaper adds that Sheffield United want £1.5 million to part with the player they paid half that to sign from Southend in January.

Having failed to land Wallace, it is understood that Middlesbrough have remained in the market for another wide player, and the success of that pursuit could determine the future of Marvin Johnson – the Boro winger being linked with a move to Sheffield United.

Championship clubs have until 5pm on Friday to conclude loans and free transfers.
