Aston Villa and Leeds United could rival Middlesbrough for the Reading defender.
But Monk could face competition for the Reading defender’s signature, with two of his former clubs Swansea City and Leeds United also credited with interest, along with Aston Villa.
Wales’ Chris Gunter
Gunter, who was a regular as the Royals reached the Championship play-off final last season, is said to have a £1 million release clause, which, if triggered, would allow him to talk freely with other clubs.
It is claimed that Gunter wants first team football if he is to leave Reading this summer, and potential right-back exits at Middlesbrough, Leeds and Aston Villa suggest efforts could be being made to accommodate the Wales international.
According to The Teesside Gazette, Boro’s Antonio Barragan is set for a loan move to Real Betis, while The Yorkshire Evening Post is reporting that Lewie Coyle is leaving Leeds for Fleetwood Town in another temporary deal.
New Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk
Gunter, 27, can also play on the opposite side if required.
