Middlesbrough were linked with a move for the Everton midfielder on Monday.

Middesbrough did enquire about Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic earlier this month, but were not given an indication that a deal was possible, according to the Northern Echo.
Teamtalk reported on Monday that Boro are hoping to persuade Besic to join them on loan ahead of Wednesday night’s transfer deadline.
According to the Northern Echo, however, the Teessiders have opted to look elsewhere after their initial approach for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international.

Another Everton midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin, continues to be linked with a move to West Ham United and the chances of both players leaving this week appear to be slim, unless a replacement is brought in.
Middlesbrough sold Adam Forshaw – a former Everton trainee – to Leeds United earlier this month, and the Northern Echo reports they are expected to cut short Lewis Baker’s loan spell within the next 24 hours – having already persuaded Jack Harrison to join them on loan from Manchester City.

The newspaper adds, however, that another Boro midfielder, Adam Clayton, will not be allowed to leave on a temporary basis this window.
According to the Daily Mail, are showing interest in Jordan Cousins of Queens Park Rangers, who would be a viable Besic alternative.
