Middlesbrough need to offload players if they are able to afford Everton winger Yannick Bolasie’s wages.
Boro are trying to cut costs as they look to make room for new additions, and Bolasie is on Tony Pulis’ wishlist.
Middlesbrough had tried to sign Bolasie before he went to Aston Villa in the summer, but they failed in their attempt.
Bolasie was expected to spend the whole season at Villa, but his loan move has been cut short, and he has now returned to Everton.
Boro are keen to seize the opportunity to sign the skilful wide-man, who moved to Everton for £25 million in 2016 (the Guardian), but Pulis realises that players need to be sold first.
Ashley Fletcher, Stewart Downing, Adam Clayton and Grant Leadbitter are all said to be available, as Boro aim to reduce their wage bill.
And if the Teessiders are able to offload their fringe players then Everton could be presented with a transfer offer for Bolasie before the end of the month.
