Middlesbrough have really stepped up their pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga, with the Daily Mail reporting they have made a bid for the striker.
New manager Garry Monk has been tasked with getting Boro back into the Premier League at the first time of asking and chairman Steve Gibson has promised him funds to achieve that.
The impending departures of Stewart Downing, Ben Gibson and Adama Traore will also free up extra cash and Monk views Assombalonga as the ideal candidate to lead the attack in his new look team.
It is understood the Forest forward is valued at around £10m, but how much the North East club have bid for the 24-year-old is not clear at this point.

It is easy to see why Monk thinks so much of Assombalonga, though, with the former Peterborough United man scoring 30 goals in 69 appearances (47 of which were starts) for the Reds since arriving at the City Ground in the summer of 2014.
However, if there were any concerns about the attacker it would be to do with his fitness, with the ex-Watford star having missed significant game time at Forest due to a succession of injuries.
