Both Middlesbrough and Sunderland have lost goalkeepers this summer, and the Leeds United man could replace them.

Championship newcomers Middlesbrough and Sunderland are monitoring Leeds United goalkeeper Robert Green, The Yorkshire Post reports.

Green’s position as Leeds number 1 has come under threat following last week’s capture of Felix Wiedwald from Werder Bremen, and has already been linked with a shock move to Arsenal [The Sun on Sunday].

Nevertheless, the 37-year-old is likely to find first team opportunities easier to come by at either Middlesbrough or Sunderland, who have both lost goalkeepers this summer.

And a move to The Riverside could be particularly appealing, given that Green’s former Leeds boss, Garry Monk, and coach, Daryl Flahavan, have both moved there this summer.

Middlesbrough already look to have beaten Sunderland to the signing of former Leeds midfielder and reported Elland Road target Jonny Howson from Norwich City.

According to Sky Sports, Howson is set to become Monk’s first major signing on Teesside, despite being linked with a late move to the Stadium of Light by the Sunderland Echo.

Leeds currently have four senior goalkeepers, although The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Bailey Peacock-Farrell is signing for Oldham Athletic on loan, where he will replace Middlesbrough’s Connor Ripley.
