According to The Mirror (15/11, p74), West Ham United are set to open talks with Michail Antonio over a new contract next month.
Antonio’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but West Ham have an option to extend that by another year.
Rather than kick the can down the road for another year, West Ham now want to give Antonio a new contract until the summer of 2024.
Antonio would become one of the club’s highest earners with this new deal, and talks look set to commence in December.
The 30-year-old has scored three times in six Premier League games this season, and ended last season with 10 goals in 24 appearances.
David Moyes branded Antonio’s development as a striker as ‘excellent’ back in July, having smashed four goals against Norwich City.
The 2015 signing from Nottingham Forest has moved from a winger to a centre forward, and has proven to be a nuisance for many Premier League defenders.
Spotrac note that Antonio earns around £70,000-a-week at West Ham, but he should see that bumped up to a six-figure weekly sum off the back of his superb 2020 form.
