According to a report in the Express and Star, West Bromwich Albion have scrapped plans to move for Michael O’Neill.

West Brom had been considering placing O’Neill in charge at the Hawthorns next season, but the Northern Irish boss will not be getting the job.

Albion have other preferred targets now, with O’Neill set to miss out.

The 49-year-old boss has done an impressive job at international level, but his lack of experience in club football may have counted against him.

West Brom are now assessing their other options, with Chris Hughton and Danny Cowley among the leading candidates.

Hughton has only just departed Brighton & Hove Albion, and has an impressive track record at Championship level.

Cowley, on the other hand, has been one of the most successful managers in the Football League over recent times – guiding Lincoln City to back to back promotions in the past two seasons.
