Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers want Michael O’Neill to be in charge of the Gers, and Stadium of Light outfit Sunderland want him as well, according to a report.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers and Sunderland are interested in Michael O’Neill. The British tabloid has claimed that Scottish club Rangers and English outfit Sunderland want to appoint O’Neill as their new manager.
The Gers are on the hunt for a new permanent manager following the departure of Pedro Caixinha in October. The Portuguese coach parted company with the Ibrox outfit due to a run of disappointing results in the Scottish Premiership.
Sunderland, who are playing in the Championship at the moment after getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, are on the lookout for a new permanent manager following the departure of Simon Grayson last month.

O’Neill is in charge of Northern Ireland at the moment, having narrowly failed to guide them to the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia next summer.
Both Rangers and Sunderland seem set to be disappointment in their (reported) pursuit of the 48-year-old. According to The Sunderland Echo, the former Newcastle United midfielder is keen on the vacant Scotland national manager’s job.

Meanwhile, Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom has commented on whether he would be interested in the Sunderland job.
“Nothing has changed,” Heckingbottom told The Yorkshire Post. “I have always said I am happy (at Barnsley). But I am also ambitious and driven; of course I am.
“It is not being big-headed in any way, but you’d like to think you are on people’s lists. Whether they (Sunderland) would take it any further is down to them.”
