Burnley’s Michael Keane celebrates scoring
According to The Telegraph, Burnley defender Michael Keane would prefer to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer rather than Everton or Liverpool.
Keane, 24, came up through the ranks with boyhood club Manchester United before joining Burnley on loan in 2014, penning a permanent deal in January 2015.
The centre back was not only a key part of Burnley’s promotion from the Championship last summer, but has been one of the Premier League’s top defenders this term.
Now an England international, Keane has starred for Burnley, and with just over a year left on his contract at Turf Moor, it seems that the defender will be leaving the Clarets this summer before he can walk away for nothing in 2018.
The Telegraph now claim that Everton and Liverpool are interested in snapping up Keane this summer, but it’s stated that he would in fact prefer a move to Tottenham Hotspur, if given the choice of the three clubs.
The report states that Tottenham are looking to sign Keane, and could be persuaded to sell England ace Eric Dier to Manchester United this summer if they’re able to sign the Burnley star.
Burnley’s Michael Keane
In terms of Mauricio Pochettino’s 3-4-3 system that he has deployed regularly this season, Keane could slot into the defence alongside Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
With an alleged asking price of around £30million, Tottenham could fund a move for Keane by selling Dier, though the latter’s versatility to play in holding midfield is something that Keane can’t offer – something that Pochettino and Spurs should consider as they line up a move for the Burnley ace.
