Micah Richards is reportedly finally in the twilight of his Aston Villa career.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith threw Micah Richards a bit of a lifeline back in October.

The 30-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball for the Villans in well over two years after going off the boil in a major way.

But this extended absence is partially attributed to a serious knee injury which hasn’t helped Richards’s bid for a comeback.

In October, Smith told The Birmingham Mail: “Micah has trained with us but he’s not played for a long time so his fitness is not near to being in contention at all at the moment.

“We’ll see how his fitness builds over the next month or two.”

It’s been two months and there’s still no sign of the former Manchester City star, who joined Aston Villa in 2015.

And now The Birmingham Mail reports that only a ‘miracle’ would see him stay at Villa Park beyond the end of his contract this summer.

This will come as little surprise to fans of the West Midlands club, but it was clear that Smith was open-minded over the prospect of ushering him back into the senior squad at some point, but it seems even less likely to happen now.

His last appearance for Aston Villa came against Wolves in October 2016.
