As per a report by the Daily Mail, Brighton could end up losing Robert Sanchez to former boss Graham Potter, who has identified him as the ideal replacement for the potentially outgoing Edouard Mendy.

Further details suggest that while the Senegalese international remains hopeful that he could reclaim his place in the side, there is a sense that the ex-Swansea manager considers Kepa Arrizabalaga as his preferred choice in net.

As a result, the Champions League winner is weighing up a potential exit at the end of the season, due to being relegated to the status of a second-choice goalkeeper.

While a decision will be made about Edouard Mendy’s future after the campaign draws to a close, the Seagulls could suffer a blow as Graham Potter has earmarked Robert Sanchez as his successor next summer.

Interestingly, it is mentioned that Brighton’s former goalkeeping coach, Ben Rosters, who joined Potter by moving to Chelsea harbours a strong relationship with the Spaniard.

As a result, it is considered that Sanchez could be lured into heading to West London, due to the very presence of Roberts at the club.

Huge blow for Brighton

Since Robert Sanchez has been blooded into Brighton’s first-team in 2020, he has become one of the pillars behind the club’s rise in recent memory.

Under both Graham Potter and now Roberto De Zerbi, the 24-year old has arguably been the primary factor behind why both managers have been able to implement a possession-heavy style of play.

After all, the former Levante star is admired for being the embodiment of the modern-day goalkeeper, especially renowned for his comfortability in possession.

While Brighton have a near-perfect track record of replacing some of their most essential players over the years, it would be a tall task to find a rightful successor for Sanchez.

The Amex faithful will keep their fingers crossed that Robert Sanchez decides to stay put at the club he joined in 2013, with Graham Potter taking a liking to the idea of Edouard Mendy as his main man in between the sticks at Chelsea.
