West Ham United’s hopes of signing Maxi Gomez may be dwindling.

According to The Express, West Ham United target Maxi Gomez has told friends that he wants to play in the Champions League next season.
Gomez, 22, has starred for Celta since arriving from Defensor Sporting in Uruguay two years ago, notching 30 goals in 73 games for the Galician side.
The burly striker has become a top target for West Ham in recent times, and with Uruguay now out of Copa America, he’s likely to make a decision on his future.
Unfortunately for West Ham, it’s now claimed that Gomez has told friends that he wants to play Champions League football next season. That’s a blow for the Hammers, who can’t even offer Europa League football, never mind Champions League.
Two clubs may now be in a position to sign Gomez ahead of Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Valencia are one of them, as they’re willing to offer cash plus Kangin Lee, Jorge Saenz and homegrown Celta talent Santi Mina to sign Gomez.
That’s an enticing offer, but The Mirror noted last week that Gomez is actually holding off signing for another club because he’s waiting to hear whether Tottenham Hotspur want to sign him.

If true, Gomez would make sense for Spurs. They need another striker to support Harry Kane, and he’d not only fit the bill as a target man to replace Fernando Llorente, but he also has huge potential for Mauricio Pochettino to tap into.
Tottenham appear to have other priorities for now, meaning that Valencia may well be favourites having launched such an enticing bid – and if Tottenham do want him, they need to move now, with West Ham’s hopes dwindling.
