CalcioMercato report that Maurizio Sarri has identified on-loan Tottenham goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini as a top target ahead of the summer window. The report claims Gollini is keen on joining Lazio, is he is first choice.
Gollini, 26, joined Tottenham on a loan-to-buy basis from Atalanta in the summer. It is believed that loan becomes permanent when he plays 20 matches, but Gollini has only managed 10 appearances for the London side.
In that time, he has conceded 11 goals and kept only two clean sheets. Tottenham’s early exit from the Conference League has reduced his game time. There is also an option to extend the loan by a further year.
But with Hugo Lloris signing a new deal in January, it is clear that Gollini will not be overtaking the World Cup winner. The report claims he is keen on leaving Spurs in the summer – and Lazio are ready to pounce.
Thomas Strakosha is expected to leave this summer, and Pepe Reina could too, with both Lazio goalkeepers contracted until June. Gollini could be open to a move if he is first choice – which is a distinct possibility.
Should Tottenham keep Italy man Gollini as Sarri eyes move?
Eurosport say Gollini will cost £13million if Tottenham want to sign him permanently. Hardly a big expense, but is it worth spending if he is simply going to be a back-up goalkeeper? Gollini is miles off Lloris.
If there were signs he might be good enough to eventually replace Lloris, then £13million is cheap. But it is becoming clear that Gollini will not remain at Spurs – and a move to Lazio would suit the Italian, if he is no.1.
