Report: Mauricio Pochettino convinced Serge Aurier to join Tottenham

PSG’s Dani Alves deal was a clear sign to Ivorian that he must move on, with Tottenham appearing to win the race.

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of sealing a deal to sign Serge Aurier, L’Equipe reported late last night.

The Ivory Coast defender has been lined up to compete with Kieran Trippier at right-back after the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

French website Maxifoot report Aurier was convinced to join Spurs after conversations with head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Juventus, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Chelsea are all named as clubs in the report who had shown interest in Aurier this summer.

Aurier has been at PSG since 2015 having signed on loan a year earlier, but he has been pushed out of the first team picture by the arrival of Brazilian right-back Dani Alves.

The 25 million Euro fee will set Tottenham back £22.9m.

Aurier featured for Ivory Coast at the 2014 World Cup and will be hoping his move to Tottenham keeps his international place intact.

The 24-year-old has not featured in either of PSG’s league games so far this season. Last season he played 24 Ligue 1 games, providing three assists.

Before his transfer can be approved, Aurier must get approval to enter the UK, as he is currently banned due the fact he has a conviction for assault. He has appealed to try and get this overturned, which will be necessary for him to obtain a work permit.
