Leeds United are reportedly prepared to pay £11 million for Matej Vydra, but a move is currently looking unlikely.
Leeds have been heavily linked with last season’s top goalscorer in the Championship for some time now, and the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the Whites were prepared to pay £11 million to bring the 26-year-old to the club.
It would be a big blow for Marcelo Bielsa to not get Vydra through the door. The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Bielsa is a fan of the Czech Republic international, and the new Whites boss undoubtedly needs to strengthen his striker options this summer.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s loan has concluded and he is back at Hamburg, while talk of bringing Abel Hernandez to the club has also died down somewhat in recent times. Jay-Roy Grot has left on loan and the Yorkshire Evening Post suggests that Caleb Ekuban’s future with the Whites is in doubt.
With Vydra seemingly the big name at the top of Leeds’ shopping list, it will be interesting to see how determined they remain to stay at the negotiating table as the forward’s demands grow.
They are clearly prepared to spend big money on getting him signed, so perhaps it may not be a major surprise if his change in demands does not put them off entirely.
But with a move already looking like a major gamble from the Whites due to the finances involved, perhaps it would not be a great shock if a number of Leeds fans were urging the club to now look elsewhere.
