Did Leeds United try to sign the Italian striker too late?

Reports from Italy have suggested that Leeds United held late talks with Salernitana to sign striker Massimo Coda.
Solo Salerno claims that Leeds owner Massimo Cellino wanted to bring the 27-year-old to Leeds last week, but it was too late in the transfer window.

The Italian businessman seemingly spoke with officials from the Serie B club, but added that the conversation did not even reach a negotiation stage.
The report goes on to suggest that Salernitana were reluctant to do business as it left them with little time in which to replace the former Parma forward.
Leeds boss Garry Monk signed two strikers during the window, with Kemar Roofe – who has played largely on the right – and Marcus Antonsson both joining.

But there may be a need for further firepower after United lost three of their first five Championship games, winning just once – a 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
That being said, Coda’s goal record does not suggest he would’ve turned Leeds’ season upside down for the better, netting twice in 18 games for Parma during his two-year stay until 2015.
Monk’s side host Huddersfield Town at Elland Road on Saturday in a game they really must win. Another defeat and few would be surprised to see serious pressure mounting on the 38-year-old coach.
