According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Massimo Cellino is about to hire Pep Clotet as the new manager of Brescia.
Cellino and Clotet are two well-known names in English football, particularly amongst Leeds United supporters.
The Italian owner was one of the most enigmatic and unpredictable characters in the Football League during his time as Leeds’ owner, while Clotet worked as the Whites’ assistant manager under Garry Monk from during the 2016/17.
It’s fair to say that plenty has changed for both Cellino and Clotet since then.
Cellino sold Leeds to Andrea Radrizzani and bought Brescia, while Clotet eventually became a head coach himself at Oxford United, Birmingham City and SPAL.
The pair both had rather unceremonious ends to their time at Elland Road, but now, they could be reunited in Italy.
Interestingly, Clotet was the Brescia manager for a spell in 2021, but he parted ways with the Italian outfit after just a few months in charge.
However, it seems as though Clotet did enough during that period to impress Cellino, and now, he wants him back at Brescia.
Cellino will be hoping that Clotet can lead his team to promotion back to Serie A, but after being sacked by SPAL after leaving the club in a relegation battle, Clotet has a lot to prove at that level.
As ever, Cellino’s club will be an interesting side to keep an eye on in the 2022/23 season, and with Clotet at the helm, Leeds fans may have a vested interest in the Serie B promotion race.
