Newcastle United are trying to agree a deal that would see Martin Dubravka move to St James’ Park this month.

It has certainly been a frustrating window for Rafa Benitez as the Premier League side are still on the hunt for their first signing of the month as uncertainty regarding the club’s ownership seems to rumble on.

But perhaps Dubravka may be able to help Benitez get that first deal across the line. The Mail reports that the 29-year-old is interested in moving to St James’ Park, and Newcastle remain in talks about a potential deal for the goalkeeper.
The Mail adds that the discussions are centred around a loan move with a view to a permanent deal in the summer – though the report does not stress which side are pushing for those particular terms.
Dubravka is a highly experienced stopper so he may well prove to be a very good addition to the squad if the Magpies manage to get something done – but there have surely got to be questions regarding whether Newcastle’s biggest priority this month should be signing a new goalkeeper.

Despite losing to Manchester City on Saturday, Karl Darlow made some brilliant saves to keep the score down, while Rob Elliot has similarly looked impressive when he has been given the chance to shine this season.
Unfortunately for Newcastle, some of their outfield players have arguably not been quite as impressive so the Toon Army would have been forgiven for wanting Benitez to prioritise strengthening some of the other positions before moving for a new goalkeeper.
