A report outlines how much Tottenham Hotspur might have to pay if they want Anthony Martial from Manchester United.
That is because the Red Devils want to recoup as much as they can of the fee they paid to Monaco for the forward back in 2015.
That was an initial £38m, but due to a large amount of expensive add-ons could potentially rise as high as £61m and United want to maximise their return on the Frenchman.
However, Sky Sports reported in 2016 that two of those clauses (worth £7.7m each) are based on Martial getting 25 senior caps for his country and receiving a Ballon d’Or nomination – neither of which he has achieved as yet. He has scored 25 goals for 13-time Premier League champions, though, triggering a further £7.7m payment.
Is he worth it?
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino considers Martial a top target as the Argentine wants a pacey attacker to boost his squad ahead of next season.
Tottenham will look to accelerate talks to land the 22-year-old, but chairman Daniel Levy is renowned as a tough negotiator and the current stance on the France international’s fee could prove a stumbling block.
Especially as it would take almost half of Pochettino’s £100m budget for the 2018/19 campaign to bring in Martial from Old Trafford as it currently stands.
