According to Tuttomercatoweb, Marseille have targeted Mauricio Pochettino as a potential replacement for Andre Villas-Boas, with both linked to Newcastle United.
Marseille decided to part ways with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta on Friday. Villas-Boas had suggested previously that his future was tied to the Spaniard, with Marseille fighting to keep their manager.
Villas-Boas may look to walk away following Zubizarreta’s exit, and Marseille have allegedly started to look for potential replacements.
Gabriel Heinze is one candidate, but this report states that Marseille also like Pochettino. He has been out of work since losing his job at Tottenham Hotspur back in November.
Pochettino may well pursue a return to the game this summer, but it’s hard to imagine him taking the Marseille job. Their financial struggles have been well-documented, and having worked under tough conditions at Tottenham, he may fancy something different.
Sky Sports recently noted that Pochettino is actually wanted by Newcastle United. If their £300million takeover goes through, the club’s new owners seemingly want to throw money at Pochettino to lead their project.

Ironically though, Newcastle have also been linked with none other than Villas-Boas. Foot Mercato recently noted that the potential new regime at Newcastle would want Villas-Boas if they can’t land Pochettino.
A move to Newcastle seems more likely than heading to Marseille for Pochettino, but with Newcastle keen on both managers, the Marseille situation is one to watch for Magpies fans.
