Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to appoint Mark Warburton as their new manager following his departure from Rangers.

According to the Nottingham Post, Nottingham Forest hope to tie up a deal for Mark Warburton to become their new manager in the next 24 hours.

Forest parted ways with manager Philippe Montanier in January, and Gary Brazil – previously a youth coach at the City Ground – has been in temporary charge alongside Jack Lester and Rob Page.

Brazil made a strong start in charge of Forest, but recent results have plunged the club closer to the relegation zone, with just one win in the last seven games.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion has left Forest just two points clear of the relegation zone, and it seems that Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi is nervous at the prospect of dropping into League One.

Now, the Nottingham Post report that Forest aim to appoint Warburton in the next 24 hours, as whilst there are a couple of hurdles to overcome, he is edging towards a move to the City Ground.

Warburton, 54, recently left Rangers in acrimonious circumstances, and whilst results this season weren’t quite what the Ibrox crowd were expecting, he did win promotion to the top flight with Rangers last season.

Warburton’s track record in England is impressive, having won promotion with Brentford in 2014 and then guided the club to the Championship play-offs just a year later, earning plaudits for his work at Griffin Park.

Many expected Warburton to make the move to Forest after long-time colleague and transfer guru Frank McParland joined the club, and they look set to reunite at the City Ground.

Warburton is wanted immediately given that Forest are hovering above the relegation zone, and having never faced a battle against the drop in his time as a manager, Warburton is set to walk in to a very different challenge, if the deal can be agreed.
