According to CRTVG, Celta Vigo are set to sign free agent striker Mario Mandzukic after he rejected both Aston Villa and West Ham United.

Last month, Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Villa and West Ham had both made offers to Mandzukic, but he had turned them down.

Mandzukic was allegedly seeking a move back to Italy, but that doesn’t look likely; instead, he’s heading to Spain.

Celta Vigo are thought to be ‘one step away’ from signing Mandzukic, and are prepared to pay him €5million (£4.5million) for the rest of the season in a huge deal.

That would equal around £86,500-a-week, which seems like a staggering amount to pay, but Celta are pushing for the deal.

Celta have just appointed Eduardo Coudet as their new boss, and they could give him a marquee signing straight away with Mandzukic.

The 34-year-old is a free agent having left Al-Duhail in Qatar back in July, but now appears to be closing in on his return to football.

Turning down Villa and West Ham to end up at Celta seems a surprising choice, but he could be given a key role in Galicia rather than as a veteran squad player in England, whilst the money on offer in Spain is surely in excess of what Villa and West Ham offered.
