According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Leeds United are close to signing Kalmar striker Marcus Antonsson, and he will undergo a medical on Monday.
The Whites appointed former Swansea City boss Garry Monk as their new manager earlier this month, and he looks set to make his first signing in the coming days.
With Mirco Antenucci’s contract up, Chris Wood needs some support in attack, and it’s no surprise that Leeds are poised to bring in a striker as their first summer addition.
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet report that Leeds are set to sign Kalmar hitman Marcus Antonsson in a deal worth 16.5m Swedish krona – around £1.4m.
Speculation has been surrounding the future of Antonsson for the last few weeks, having become a star in Sweden this season with ten goals in 12 Allsvenskan games for Kalmar; a quite remarkable record.
The 25-year-old striker, formerly of Halmstads BK – where his manager one season was Leeds’ new assistant Pep Clotet – now looks set for a move to England, with the report claiming that he will undergo a medical with Leeds on Monday.
Having scored so many goals for Kalmar this season, he appears to be an exciting signing for Leeds, and whilst the Swedish press appear confident, the player himself is suggesting that nothing has been finalised just yet.
Antonsson took to Twitter earlier today, and posted a message stating ‘Nothing is clear! Have not signed anything yet!’ – meaning the deal may have accelerated in the hours since that particular tweet.
