Marco Silvestri’s days at Leeds United appear to be numbered after the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that he had been exiled from first-team training and told to work with the under-21s.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the Italian has been sent home from the Whites’ pre-season tour of Ireland, and will now return to the club’s training ground on Friday to train alongside the youngsters.
The 25-year-old’s situation is being monitored by clubs in Italy, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports, and this latest development surely confirms that his departure is now imminent.
Although Silvestri has practically been the club’s undisputed number one since arriving two years ago – making 88 league appearances for the Peacocks – his exit this summer seemed almost inevitable.
Rob Green joined Leeds earlier this week
Leeds had brought Rob Green to the club earlier this week, while the Yorkshire Evening Post previously reported that academy graduate Bailey Peacock-Farrell was definitely not going to be the one to move on, having recently signed a new two-year deal to stay at Elland Road.
News of Silvestri’s seemingly imminent departure will not come as a surprise following Green’s arrival or Peacock-Farrell’s decision to commit to the club beyond this summer, nor is the news likely to be met with much disappointment.
Though the former Chievo man was capable of sensational performances that would inspire Leeds to hold on to either a win or a draw, he was often guilty of mistakes that arguably lost United as many points as his good displays gained.
