Everton are reportedly still eyeing manager Marco Silva.
According to The Mirror, Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is still eyeing Marco Silva – but only as a second choice to Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca.
The Toffees only appointed Sam Allardyce as Ronald Koeman’s replacement back in November, but shaky performances and a far from attractive brand of football in 2018 have seen him come under huge pressure.
Allardyce still has more than a year to run on his contract with Everton, but majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri may look to make an early change this summer.
The Mirror report that Everton’s top choice to replace Allardyce remains Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca, but having been quoted £15million for him in November, it’s stated that Everton have backup options in mind too.
It’s stated that Moshiri still wants Marco Silva, but only as a backup option to Fonseca, having missed out on him in November too, when Watford quoted a similar price to Shakhtar.
Silva, 40, was impressing with Watford when Everton came calling, but he was sacked in January as the Hornets claimed the club’s poor form was down to Silva becoming distracted by Everton’s interest.
The Portuguese boss remains out of work, and having shown glimpses of his managerial quality with Hull City and Watford, he may yet be a smart choice for Everton.
Moshiri was clearly enamoured in November, and being able to land him for free may be hugely appealing – but much will depend on whether the Toffees can lure Fonseca to Goodison Park instead.
