Everton are set to appoint Marco Silva as their new manager before the end of the week.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, new Everton director of football Marcel Brands, is looking to trim the squad at Goodison Park.

Sam Allardyce had already revealed his plans to offload a number of Everton’s fringe players in the coming months, and even though he has now been sacked, the Toffees are still set to lower their wage bill.

Brands has already started planning with Silva, with the pair keen to provide a pathway to the first-team for Everton’s youngsters.

Brands wants to promote academy talent, and clearing the decks will be the first step in attempting to help Everton’s brightest prospects see a route into the senior squad.
