Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly already decided which players do not feature in his plans at Leeds United next season.

After much speculation, Leeds confirmed last week that they had appointed Bielsa as their new head coach following Paul Heckingbottom’s departure. Given the Argentinian’s stature in the game, the Whites fans will undoubtedly be expecting major changes at the club in the coming months.

But perhaps those changes may come a lot sooner than some may expect. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa has already decided which players are surplus to requirements after doing plenty of research before he took the job, and another report from the Yorkshire Evening Post adds that those who are not in his plans will either leave or train with the under-23s.
After such an uninspiring end to last season, it will probably please a number of the Leeds supporters that Bielsa has been ruthless in his assessment of the squad.

There seems to have been a number of mistakes made over the last year when it comes to Leeds’ recruitment, so moving a lot of those players on is an extremely positive move. Not only should it free up space in the squad, but it may perhaps also see Bielsa’s transfer budget receive a slight boost.
And with Bielsa likely to implement the kind of tactics that few of the squad will know particularly well, perhaps there is a chance that some of the players who were previously written off as flops by the supporters may be amongst those who become significantly more valuable to the new head coach than anyone could have imagined.
