According to The Telegraph, Marcel Brands has really rubbed Norwich City up the wrong way.

The Everton Director of Football did a piece of business with the Canaries last summer, but the Norfolk club may not be too keen to sell another player to Brands in the future.

Indeed, Brands has reportedly upset Norwich by talking down to them and treating them like a small club in the negotiations for Godfrey.

Norwich didn’t take kindly to that fact, hence why they were much happier to sell Emi Buendia to Aston Villa this summer as the Midlands club reportedly treated the Canaries with more respect.

There’s something to be said about Brands’ strategy. In all honesty, Norwich are a smaller club than Everton, but treating them as such has seemingly upset them and their Sporting Director Stuart Purslow.

Everton strongarming a team like Norwich could be seen as a good negotiating tactic. After all, they did get their man in the end, but as shown by Villa’s Buendia pursuit, treating other clubs with respect can get you a long way.

The Toffees may have landed Godfrey in the end, but if they ever find themselves in a transfer tussle for a Norwich player in the future, they may well struggle to negotiate a deal with Webber, especially if it is Brands who is trying to negotiate a deal with Daniel Farke’s side.

Fingers crossed this doesn’t come back to bite Everton in the future.
