According to The Athletic, Everton were left frustrated with Marcel Brands following the sacking of Marco Silva in 2019.
It is said that the Sporting Director annoyed the club’s hierarchy with the length of time he took to draw up a list of replacements for the former Hull City boss.
The Athletic mention that Brands wanted Silva to stay, and was perhaps a victim of his own loyalty when dragging his heels over creating a list of managerial candidates.
Despite this, The Athletic report that the Dutchman is still highly valued on Merseyside and is ‘likely’ to sign a new contract at Goodison Park.
There is acknowledgement that his record has not been flawless, although it seems as if Everton are happy enough with the former PSV Eindhoven director’s work.

Brands has been responsible for signing gems such as Lucas Digne and James Rodriguez, while his scouts also found impressive youngsters in Niels Nkounkou and Jarrad Branthwaite.
However, the Dutchman signed Jean-Philippe Gbamin for £25 million in 2019, a man who has only managed two first-team appearances so far due to injury.

He was also responsible for the £27.19 million signing of Yerry Mina and the £35 million capture of Alex Iwobi, both of whom have failed to justify those figures.
However, Brands isn’t going to get every signing right, and as aforesaid, it seems as if Everton are satisfied with his work so far.
