According to the Guardian, West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to use Rafael Benitez’s exit at Newcastle United to his advantage.

West Ham were up against Newcastle in the race for Rondon when Benitez was in charge.

However, without the Spaniard at St. James’ Park, Pellegrini is reportedly hoping that the prospect of a return to Newcastle has lot some of its appeal to the Venezualan.

There were question marks over whether Newcastle would sanction a deal for Rondon, but the Express and Star have suggested that the Magpies are still interested in the West Bromwich Albion front-man.

West Ham are hoping to beat them to the punch though.

The Hammers have already had one bid rejected for Rondon, but could well come back to West Brom with an increased offer in the coming days.

If Rondon, who is valued at £16.5 million (Telegraph), was to move to West Ham he would help to further strengthen Pellegrini’s side’s attack.

West Ham’s attacking options already look strong, but Rondon could help bolster Pellegrini’s options up-front.

Rondon would be in competition with Marko Arnautovic for a starting place at the London Stadium.
