The West Ham United manager is now said to want to keep Obiang.
Pedro Obiang’s proposed transfer from West Ham United to Sampdoria is in jeopardy, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Italian journalist claims that Manuel Pellegrini, the West Ham manager, no longer wishes to deprive himself of the midfielder – who, he adds, is trying to force the Chilean’s hand and return to his former club.
Di Marzio reported earlier this week that the two clubs were apart €2.5 million (£2.2 million) in their valuations of the player, with the Hammers said to want €12.5 million (£11.1 million).
Since then, however, West Ham have sold another midfielder, Cheikhou Kouyate, to Crystal Palace, while a replacement is yet to arrive despite the Sun’s claim that a £20 million deal for Thiago Maia, the Lille player, is imminent.
And Di Marzio adds that the longer time goes on, the more confidence Obiang loses, with Sampdoria also less optimistic than in recent weeks.
