Manchester United are interested in signing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who left Stoke in 2018, as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
That is according to Media Foot in France, who believe Erik ten Hag is preparing for the Portugal international to depart Old Trafford following his recent antics, and has identified the Cameroon international as an option.
According to the BBC, Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United, and the 37-year-old recently refused to come off the bench during a 2-0 win over Tottenham.
Manchester United eye man who left Stoke
Well, Choupo-Moting has enjoyed quite the rise since leaving Stoke in 2018.
The 33-year-old swapped Staffordshire for Paris after just one season with the Potters, where he took part in the 2020 Champions League final, which PSG lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
Choupo-Moting then joined the German giants just weeks later to provide backup for Robert Lewandowski, but he has become the main man since the Poland international joined Barcelona.
The Hamburg-born striker has scored eight goals in 13 appearances so far this season, including strikes against Barcelona and Inter Milan, with Manchester United now considering a bid.
Media Foot believe Bayern Munich are keen to extend their No.13’s contract with his current terms set to expire in July, although Ten Hag will attempt to lure him to Old Trafford.
Manchester United interest proves Stoke lost a gem
Choupo-Moting scored just five goals in 32 appearances for Stoke, and nobody associated with the Potters could have foreseen his rise.

If the Red Devils act on their interest and manage to lure the Bayern Munich marksman to Old Trafford, it would mean Choupo-Moting has arguably played for the biggest clubs in each of France, Germany and England.
The 6ft 3in frontman has done superbly well to make a name for himself in the latter stages of his career, after a rather modest Bundesliga stint during his twenties which involved average spells at Hamburg, Mainz and Schalke.
Keep an eye on this situation, as it would be remarkable to see Choupo-Moting replace Ronaldo.
