Manchester United are among a host of clubs reportedly chasing the signature of Valencia starlet Fran Villalba, according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail reports that Liverpool had a move for the midfielder knocked back by Los Che two years ago, and it now appears that their Premier League rivals are monitoring his situation.

However, they also face competition as the Mail adds that Barcelona are also keeping an eye on the 18-year-old’s progress, while some other teams are in the mix.

While Villalba will not be a household name to many Manchester United fans, he is a player that Red Devils hero Gary Neville will know very well.

It was during Neville’s brief tenure at the Mestalla that the youngster earned his first-team debut. Since the retired defender’s departure however, Villalba has failed to add to his tally of four appearances.

And Neville’s influence may perhaps prove to be important to United’s hopes of landing him. The Mail reports that his contract includes a £3.6m release clause, so it would not be a surprise if there are several offers on the table and it is down to the midfielder to decide his future.
