Brandon Williams reportedly remains intent on leaving Manchester United on loan this summer.

This is according to the Manchester Evening News, who say the defender still wants out of Old Trafford before the season starts.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not want to hear this update due to his current defensive injury dilemma.

Alex Telles is expected to be out of action until September thanks to an ankle problem sustained in training.

United are still awaiting to assess the broken ribs Luke Shaw suffered whilst away on England duty at the European Championships.

Set-back for Solskjaer

Having both Telles and Shaw unavailable for the opening Premier League game against Leeds United in 12 days would be a huge blow for Solskjaer’s side.

Matters could be made even worse if Williams is serious about earning a move before the transfer window closes.

The 20-year-old is set to be propelled up the pecking order following the omission of Telles.

He only made 14 appearances across all competitions last campaign and is eager to earn more game time in the top flight.

Yet, he has started all three of United’s pre-season fixtures on the left in place of Shaw and Telles.

Southampton have shown interest in the full-back, although they recently recruited Tino Livramento from Chelsea, who is typically a right-back.

Williams is able to play on either flank, but will hardly get a look in down Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s avenue.

Solskjaer can call upon Diogo Dalot, who is equally as versatile.

Ideally, the damage to Shaw is not too serious and United can start the term with their strongest back-line, which should include Raphael Varane.

But potentially losing Williams adds even more pressure for the valuation of the Euro 2020 star’s health to be positive.
