Report: Manchester United scouts concerned by Spurs’s Alderweireld

Manchester United are reportedly considering alternative targets after becoming concerned about Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld’s profile.

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have switched their attention away from Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld somewhat amid concerns about his profile.

Alderweireld’s future appears to be up in the air this summer, and the Manchester Evening News reports that the Belgian is odds-on with bookmakers to make the switch to Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho’s men consider moving for the 29-year-old.

But while the Manchester Evening News adds that Alderweireld remains on United’s radar during this window, they suggest that the club’s scouts now have concerns about the former Southampton loanee and would prefer that the Red Devils pursue other centre-back targets during this window.

Of course, United seemingly switching their attention away from Alderweireld does not necessarily mean that Spurs fans can expect to see the defender still in Mauricio Pochettino’s ranks when the new campaign begins.

But perhaps it may make it more likely that Alderweireld will be staying around during this summer at least, and based on the quality that he possesses, that would arguably be a boost for Tottenham next term.

He struggled to get into the team on a regular basis this past season, but is still a player of the highest quality, and with Spurs looking to battle on four fronts once again next year, keeping him around could be a boost even if his contract situation is not addressed.
