Manchester United have reportedly made contact with the representatives of Roma defender Kostas Manolas.
According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United have taken the first steps towards a deal for Roma defender Kostas Manolas by contacting his representatives.
Manolas, 24, had become one of the top young centre backs in Europe during his time with Olympiacos, and after flashing ability for Greece at the 2014 World Cup, he was snapped up by Roma.
The defender has since established himself as a leading centre half in Serie A, becoming a mainstay of the Roma team with 86 appearances in his two seasons at the club.
Manolas has now attracted interest, and it seems that one manager has set his heart on bringing Manolas to the Premier League during this summer’s transfer window.
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Jose Mourinho – set to be named the new Manchester United manager this week – has made a request to the Red Devils to bring Manolas to Old Trafford in a bid to immediately stabilise his defence.
It’s claimed that United officials have met with Manolas’ representatives to try and work out a deal, and Roma want a huge €40m (£30m) fee for their Greek defender – a fee which United are allegedly ready to pay this summer.
There are believed to be issues with a sell-on clause that Olympiacos inserted into the deal two years ago, but with Mourinho believed to be desperate to sign Manolas, United are moving for the 6ft 1in centre back.
