Manchester United are interested in Southampton right-back Cedric Soares and are prepared to pay £20million to sign him.

Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho is keen to add a right-back to his squad in the close season to act as competition to veteran Antonio Valencia.

Valencia is approaching his 33rd birthday and, with Matteo Darmian expected to leave, the Ecuador international will be the only natural option in the position.
Mourinho favours a move for his fellow Portuguese Soares, who also knows current United defender Marcos Rojo well from their time spent together at Sporting Lisbon.

The 26-year-old joined the Saints from Sporting in the summer of 2015 and has since played 93 times for the Hampshire club in all competitions.
If Southampton – who are currently 18th in the Premier League table and four points off Swansea City and safety – were to be relegated this season then the chances of Soares leaving would increase even further.
