According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are plotting a move to sign Sheffield United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a £1m deal.

The Red Devils have spent heavily this summer in order to land Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but a move to land a top young talent could be on the cards before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

With Will Keane having no future and James Wilson out on loan at Derby, United appear to want another young English striker after Marcus Rashford’s remarkable impact at Old Trafford.

Now, the Daily Mail report that the Red Devils have turned their attention to Sheffield United attacker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, as they line up a £1m move for the youngster.

The 19-year-old striker was born in Sheffield and came up through the ranks with the Blades having signed back in 2005, but has only made five first-team appearances for the club so far.

He has though made a huge impact during loan spells though, scoring six goals in just five games for Stalybridge Celtic, as well as eight goals in 26 games for Northampton Town last season.

Calvert-Lewin’s loan exploits have triggered interest, as the Liverpool Echo reported back in July that Everton had an offer of £1m rejected.

United are now being linked with a move at the same value, but whether add-ons and sell-on clauses are greater in United’s bid remains to be seen.

It’s stated that, with United looking to add young talent to their ranks ahead of the Premier League International Cup this season, and have identified Calvert-Lewin as a player they can mould and develop – and League One side Sheffield United may now have their resolve tested ahead of the transfer deadline, as standing in the way of a youngster’s move to Old Trafford is certainly difficult to do.
